THE POWERFUL TOOL TO LIFT UP YOUR PEOPLE (NO MATTER WHAT BIRD TYPE THEY ARE)

WHY CHANGE & UNCERTAINTY IS HARDER FOR SOME PEOPLE

HOW YOUR PERSONALITY BIRD TYPE AFFECTS YOUR RELATIONSHIPS
October 25, 2018

No matter what important relationship you’re in (partner, sibling, colleague or employer-employee), you want the best for them. This means lifting them up, being their shoulder, and helping them reach their full capacity. We don’t all have that Eagle-like confidence, especially our sweet Doves.

If you don’t know what we’re referring to, fill in your details to on the right.

Showing you appreciate a person’s value is one way of building their confidence. Whether it’s a work setting, at home with your partner or with your child, respect is a powerful tool.

At our core, humans want to feel important. Even that dominant Eagle, yes. But it’s important to know how people respond, based on their personalities. For example, a Dove will respond to words of affirmation more than a fact-loving Owl – who might validate their worth and gain confidence through tangible business growth.

But generally, you can satisfy this deep subconscious need for personal importance by following the three A’s.

Appreciation:

You don’t need to keep telling them how great they are (well, maybe those sensitive, kind Doves). But regular, subtle reminders about how you appreciate them can go a long way. Even if your employees know their work is good, they need to hear it, too.

Go up to them and share their successes, verbally. They’re more likely to do it again if you show them you’ve noticed their great work.

“Hey, I just wanted to thank you for….” And knowing their personality bird type helps your message get ‘through’. For example, Peacocks love recognition, so make them feel like the centre of attention for a little bit. Trust us, you’ll make their day.

Approval:

Praise and approval is closely linked to confidence. If your staff present an idea or share their voice, rely personally. Be deliberate about your response. Deliver it positively and offer your feedback or opinions to complement theirs.

People praise is a great tool. If someone does well, do some shameless bragging in front of your team. Make a big deal out of it. Even shy people, maybe your Doves, secretly love this. Just take softer approach with Doves vs. say, your Eagles.

Attention:

Listen to your team, intently, when they talk to you. It’s such a simple thing, giving complete attention, but few of us do it. Put your phone down, show eye contact, and be present in the conversation. They’ll feel valued and your relationships will be better.

By only being half there, you’re ‘telling’ the other person that you don’t value the conversation. It’s happens unconsciously and even if you don’t mean it, that’s how it’ll come across. Respect your team’s time by giving them yours.

Always be conscious about how you’re coming across, by using Tick’s bird types to guide your communication. Confidence isn’t always what you think it is. It could be as simple as always being there, being consistent. And as an extension of this, their confidence will grow.

Our bird types will help you with employee engagement and satisfaction. Just fill out your details in the red form and we’ll arrange to send samples of our personality questionnaires to you.
