Stories, huh? What stories?

All of us have stories. The accumulation of our past experiences usually serves as the ‘chapters’. When we talk about stories in this context, we’re referring to the things that you tell yourself (or others.)

Most of the time, we don’t even know we’re doing this. We’re unconscious to it, thinking it’s just part of ‘who we are.’ While it’s an important way for us to make sense of the world, we often jump to conclusions without realising. Like creating stories about people, without understanding them on a deeper level (using Tick’s profiling personality assessments).

For example, let’s say you had to present a project to your then boss, a few years ago. It didn’t go so well and thinking back to that moment, palms sweaty and voice quivering makes you relive that experience all over again. From that day, you told yourself ‘I’m not good at presentations and public speaking.’

This becomes a story. But in reality, you might have just needed to prepare more for that presentation. It’s crazy how the mind works like that.

Another narrative you might add to that is ‘my boss is rude because he barely showed interest.’

So, why are we talking about stories?
